Advice on fitness and
training
This challenge is not for the
fainthearted. Mount Snowdon involves a four mile ascent and a
five mile descent. The route is rocky and steep in places.
Anyone attempting to climb it needs to be relatively fit.
Adequate physical preparation will also greatly enhance your
enjoyment of the day!
Remember, the walk could take you up to six hours over some
difficult terrain. A plan of exercise that increases your
fitness levels gradually in preparation for it is therefore
recommended.
Hints to get fit
-
Start a training regime several months
before the event – don’t leave it to the last minute!
-
If you’re a member of a gym ask them to
prepare an exercise programme for you
-
Start off slowly and gradually build up the
amount you exercise
-
If your preparation involves walking start
with several 10 minute walks and slowly build on this over
time
-
Closer to the event try to set aside a
weekend of walking doing ideally 10-15 miles each day. That
will pay off handsomely in improving your fitness and
stamina levels particularly if it includes some hill
walking.
