Snowdon 500
Challenge – 2012 : Fifth Anniversary Event
The annual Snowdon 500 Charity Challenge
has raised more than £600,000 for prostate cancer research
in it’s first 4 years and the next Snowdon 500 Challenge
will be held over the weekend of Saturday 19th May and
Sunday 20th May 2012. As it will be our 5th anniversary
event we are planning to make this the best and most
innovative charity challenge experience so far.
For 2012 it will again be possible to take
part in the traditional challenge of climbing Mt Snowdon and
choosing either the Saturday (19th May) or Sunday (20th May)
to make the ascent. But for the very first time we will also
be holding a separate event – The Welsh Three Peaks Challenge
climbing Pen Y Fan (Brecon Beacons), Cadair Idris (Mid
Wales) and finally Mt Snowdon.

What’s it all
about
In the UK more than 30,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer
annually and around 10,000 men die of this terrible disease – on
average that’s at least one death every hour on every day.
It’s because prostate cancer affects so many men and their
families / friends that we organise the Snowdon 500 Charity
Challenge as a way of making more people aware of this killer
disease and to raise the funds that are essential for the research
effort into finding ways of improving the treatment of prostate
cancer can continue.

PCRC.
By taking part you will not only summit the highest mountain in England
& Wales but do so in the company of likeminded people from all
over the UK. You will be rewarded by a fantastic and enjoyable
mountain experience. There is no greater personal satisfaction
than knowing that the sponsorship funds you raise will make an
important contribution to the work of the Prostate Cancer Research
Centre in its quest to find a cure for the most frequently
diagnosed male cancer. So
help us make the Snowdon 500 5th Anniversary event a
very special one and sign up now to take part.

"Prostate cancer has traditionally been a 'cinderella'
tumour and the needs of men with this disease have
sometimes been poorly met. However in the last 10
years we have seen very significant advances in the
detection and treatment of this cancer. There is still
a long way to go and the important work at the
Prostate Cancer Research Centre is helping us to
understand prostate cancer more fully. The
developments and discoveries by PCRC are very exciting
and represent part of the future for defeating this
dreadful disease and improving the outcome for men
with prostate cancer.
The Snowdon 500 Challenge has been a huge
success and I would strongly encourage you to
participate in the current event for a very worthy
cause" |

"Over the last 3 years
Snowdon 500 has raised a magnificent £500,000
to support our vital research. Snowdon is a
fantastic mountain and presents a significant
challenge but despite this every one of our walkers returns
with a smile on their face. This is partly
because of the sense of achievement on completing
the challenge but also because they know they have
raised much needed funds for prostate cancer
research.
The Snowdon 500 is a very friendly event suitable
for all ages, genders and abilities. Even if you
have never set foot on a mountain before you will be
very welcome to join us. Having taken part in every
Snowdon 500 myself I can strongly recommend taking
part. Teams are always welcome (why not ask friends,
family or work colleagues to join you) but
if you want to come on your own (and many do) then
we would love to see you.
On behalf of our research team I would like to thank
you for your support and look forward to meeting you
at Snowdon 500 in 2011." |
